waterpump advice

Post by timwilks13 » Mon Mar 11, 2013 3:22 pm

Being -5deg.C last night meant all the water in my cooling system had frozen, didnt think about this till i started her up and almost immediately burnt out and snapped the fan belt because the water pump couldnt rotate. Has anyone done this before and if so can i expect the damage to only be the belt, or is there anything else i should look at?!?!

id make sure the water pump hasnt damaged the impellers or bearing if im honest. also id drain the system out and refill with new antifreeze and water.

the thing is if it is damaged and you dont realise you run the risk of over heating and cooking it up and having to replace more than the water pump.

prevention is better than cure

Probably get away with it.

I accidentally left my truck sat with no anti-freeze in it through -12 and it was all good.

its also worth checking over the core plugs as these can be pushed out after freezing
