3 wheel drive

Post by timwilks13 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 9:36 am

Noticed that when offroading, in sticky situations the rear driver side wheel never spins round, so last night, thanks to the snow and ice, i tied my 410 to a big tree, put her in gear in 4 wheel drive and put a brick on the accelerator and got out to check which wheels were spinning and which ones werent and the rear right is not....somethings clearly not right, any clues? Thanks!!

With an open diff the wheel with least traction can just spin while the one with all the traction can just stay still, this is especially noticeable when cross axled. so this is perfectly normal.

If there was a problem with your rear axle, say you had snapped a shaft so one wheel wouldn't get drive then in 2wd you wouldn't actually be able to drive anywhere.

oh right grand, i shall stop worrying then, just seemed odd that it always seems to be that one wheel, but i probably only notice it on that one tbh.
I thought that the rear wheels were fixed and if one spun the other would spin, but at the same time i know nothing about differentials, so thanks :doublethumbs:

Only with a locked diff or lsd will both wheels always spin, might be worth checking to see if the brake is binding though.
