What Engine to put in my Samurari???
What Engine to put in my Samurari???
Alright everyone
bought my first SJ last weekend and im looking for a bit of advice,
currently it has a 1.6 8v Vitara engine on carbs with the 1.3 SJ box, which goes quite well, took it down a few green lanes by me and im chuffed with the way performed
but it all seems a bit old skool for me so was looking at getting a Diesel turbo engine, found a Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8 Turbo engine for £250 they any good? has anyone else put this engine in an SJ??
Thanks

Most people decide against diesels in SJs because they're much heavier. If you're dead set though I think the Peugeot 1.9TD engine is the easiest option.LukeyGTI wrote:Alright everyone

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

You already have the best engine conversion installed, the vit engine is 20% more power for a slight increase in weight, I'd stick with the vit motor if I was you!

Re: What Engine to put in my Samurari???
2.8td is way too much.
SJs are small and light. Anything much more than a 1600 or 1.9 pug lump is a bit pointless. If you want power try a 1300 swift GTi or 1.5 Ignis lump.
If you do want to change it any engine you want can be put in with enough work.

The video is a perfect example of why you want to keep it light, a bit less weight and he would have been straight through.
1.6 is all it needs. Only adds about 35-40kgs over the 1.3.
Think the Vit lump with all the extras is around 120kg a big diesel will be double that!

ok you've swayed me towards staying with the vitara engine! any tips to get the most out that engine?
another quick question, not engine related, noticed the front leaf springs were looking quite flat is this normal or should they have a curve in them?

Generally speaking leaf springs should be curved, but most original SJ front springs are just about flat, even when they left the factory there wasn't much curve to them!
As for engine mod's, i think janspeed make a header for them and you can change your carb to something better, one of my favourite carbs is the weber 32/36dgv
