Mot question
everything works on my sj been on the mot website but as you well know that one of my sj front wheel arch has rusted but its not that bad u can see through it though it seems that its the only probelm ! so was wondering if this would fail it. as im temped to put it in for a mot !

It'll fail. Mine had a rust hole in the front of the bonnet.

yep my mot will get his pry bar and boom hill will poke it throught it make it bit bigger put yellow mark with chalk around it and boom fail , the joys of working in a garage to know these things

if its non structural then you can put a bit of duct tape over the hole to get it through an mot.
as long as there's no sharp edges and its not close to anything structural it should pass.

The place where I get mine done the have a roll of duct take set aside for just that.

Depends where you go. Mine were fully detached for a while.

If it's within 12" of a body or seatbelt mount it will fail, if not it will be fine.

technically speaking a tester is not allowed to remove anything. so for for example if gaffer tape etc is covering a hole he or she can't remove it to inspect whats underneath.
however, that said, there is always the piece of mind knowing you've done a job properly and that the mot tester will pass it.
if it were me id just do the work so its done done and solid. that way you know its worthy.

It wouldn't take much to put one of these through some gaffer tape and he's perfectly within his rights to poke through it

you are quite right my good sir. I used to do mots for a couple years with the old man. while testing for rust you are 'supposed' to lightly 'tap' or scrape any area that is in your opinion rusty.
However you know as well as I do that most mot testers will hit a muddy 4x4 pretty hard on a test due to the the nature of the vehicle.
its far better to get the work done before it gets any worse. and seein as you dont actually drive it on the road yet ollie, do the work first so you dont waste 50 quid on a test.
