Heaven can wait I'm busy send-off and home over the Plains

Post by dan_2k_uk » Mon Apr 01, 2013 7:19 pm

Me, Scottie, Helen, and Karis took the drive to Southampton yesterday to send off the heaven can wait guys on their round the world trip.

Met Twiss, Tom, and Joe there. Good to put a few more faces to names guys.

Joe had to head off straight away the rest of us went for a pub lunch and a few nearby lanes before Twiss and Tom had to head off.

Then the remaining four of us continued home mostly off road over Salisbury Plain.

Had to drag Scottie out of some water after some electrical gremlins and then he ripped a brake line on a big bump.

Luckily the brake line incident occurred close to a main road at the end of our planned route.

Generally a funny day for me and not so much for Scott as I left him on the side of the road waiting for a recovery truck.

Barely a puddle that Dan. Don't know what he's playing at.

Overall it wasn't a grand day out for Scottie like. Shit happens unfortunately.

At least he wasn't a million miles from the main drag when he conked out.

Some tidy photos too.

Just a quick edit. Is that part of the tank range you're on?

Yeah part of the tank range not too far south west of Upavon.

I think I'm going to buy a fresh OS map of the plain and start mapping intresting features. Might do it digitally so I can share it. There are some downed helicopters you can drive right up to that I want to find.

I'm quite jealous you can drive through the range. They sound like the tank roads from Warminster up to Tidworth.

They have massive ranges and tank routes/training areas out of catterick garrison into the yorkshire dales but it's all no entry. Every gate.

One of my many things i'm saving for is my long weekend in Wiltshire.

Those tank roads are part of it. 300sq miles so it covers a huge area. Not all of that is military as some of it is grassland etc.

Come down!

I will. Only a 1600, power steering, rocklobster and some 33s to fit. Then save enough cash to fill it with petrol for the trip and sort camping gear out.

Sounds a lot but i'm hoping to have done by the end of the month.

Off to a play day at wilton next sunday too.

 was a good day out and was good to meet some new faces and catch up with Twiss

Salisbury plain was a good crack and then it started going a bit wrong for me  My SJ developed a sudden hatred for water eventhough I'm always driving it through stuff above the headlights with no issues :er:

Was fine though, didn't even get the seats wet (just  )

I will get off my arse and arrange a weekender somewhere so we can all catch up, get merry and play in the mud :doublethumbs:
