Samurai 1.3 gearbox into an sj410
Samurai 1.3 gearbox into an sj410
Hi newbie here just after some advice? Got myself an sj410 first registered 10/04/1985 and I want to put a 5 speed gearbox into it instead of its 4 speed gearbox I was told this was possible very easily so I bought myself a 5 speed samurai 1.3 gearbox.I know I will need a 1.3 samurai clutch as the splined shaft is wider etc but I finally took the 4 speed box out and looked at the faces of each to see if the bolt holes were the same? I think they look different to me so was wandering what others thought? Is it even possible to fit? Here is a pic of both the 5 speed on the left and 4 speed to the right! The lugs on the 5 speed were cut off by the person I bought the box off so that's another job in itself! Any advice appreciated! Cheers

You can get a 5sp 410 box. Thats the easiest swap.

Re: Samurai 1.3 gearbox into an sj410
I have never heard of anybody putting a samurai 1.3 gearbox to a 410
I have a 5 speed box on my 410 there ain't that many 5 speed 410 gear boxes around
I got mine for 5 quid but cost me 7 quid to get it
My 410 5 speed box bolted straight in piece of cake took 30 mins but then noticed it was in gear and the gear leave wasn't in yet so that took a while to sort out
Havnt tested it yet lol
It's only been in 1st 2nd and 3 rd gear so far and abit of 4 gear as its not on the road yet
Some say its no difference on 4th gear and 5th gear

Looks like I shouldn't believe everything I'm told then.Well if anyone on here has one in good condition all works fine etc I'd be happy to buy a 5 speed 410 gearbox or do a swap for the sammy box???

Yes you need the 410 5 speed box
May require some modifying of the mounting bracket on the rear as well depending on what you have now

My first SJ was a 410 with a 5 speed box...5th gear was more like an overdrive function really, it just lowered the revs at top speed.
Not that top speed was very much...

If it ticks over...leave it
Re: Samurai 1.3 gearbox into an sj410
I believe you can use the gears out of the 1.3 5 speed box, and put them in the 1.0 4 speed case to get a 1.0 5 speed box? just wait for some others to reply, they'll know more about this if I'm right
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out
