F10D Viability
Re: F10D Viability
Hi first time poster here I found this thread while googling as I am also trying to find out how compatiable an F10D is compared with the F10A in view to doing an engine swap. I don't actually have an SJ though (did have an 1983 SJ410 soft top as first car though and a 1995 Samurai too) but I do have an SC100 as pictured below which also uses the F10A engine but mounted transversely driving the rear wheels. As it's much harder to do an engine swap in an SC100 compared to an SJ I have my fingers crossed that the F10D block will have all the same bolt holes and also gearbox bolt pattern as it would be a nice increase to go from 45BHP to 68BHP and have a modern revvy 16 valve engine as well.

Re: F10D Viability
I used to convert the whizzkid engine into my LJ's, they used to go a lot better with the extra 200cc and the larger valves.
I hate to tell you, but a few years ago I chucked out all the SC100 ancilliaries I had left over including a few almost new exhausts!!!
Incidentally there was an after market twin carb conversion available for the SC100, think it used dellortos, but can't remember for sure and I seem to remember that Iain Paterson in Scotland was trying to fit a turbo to a whizzkid years ago, don't know if he ever did it though havn't heard from him in over 20 years. I think he was trying to dry sump it as well.

Re: F10D Viability
Yeah Janspeed made a turbo conversion kit for them & SJ's too, I think it produced 70bhp so useful increase. Shame to hear about you chucking those parts Mine did come with quite a lot of spares though as the previous owner had broken a complete car.
Does anyone have some good pictures of a bare F10A block? I have starting watching Alto's on ebay to see how cheap they can sell for to get an idea.

Re: F10D Viability
I've got loads of stripped down F10 and F8 blocks lying around, I think one of them is easy to get too without having to move a ton of other stuff, I'll have a look, but it won't be till next weekend. Speaking of the Turbo conversions I still have some old 4x4 magazines where they fitted the turbo but wasn't it Allard who did the turbo for the SJ410 and Janspeed that did the exhausts and carb conversion for the SJ413. I'll have to find the old mags.

Allard definatley did a turbo conversion for both the 410 & the 413..... I think it used the janspeed exhaust

That's a really tidy SC100! Not many around nowadays, my father also used to have one of the whizzkid engines in his LJ80 when I was a kid!
Would love to see some more pics of it

Allard turbo kit for the 413.... the kit isnt labelled but it uses the downdraft weber carb and doesn't have an inlet manifold to convert the 410s from side draft
Sorry for the poor pic, it was a photo of page 129 from the 'suzuki gold portfolio'

Re: F10D Viability
Did we get an F10D engine? I know we got the G10 but that bolts up to the 1.3 gearbox - that one is definately MPFI but I thought that the earlier model was TBI.
Edit: Just Googled that, the Maruti built cars do have the F10D. I never looked that closely at them (other than the ECUs) I know a couple of people that get over 50mpg from them although they drive like OAPS.

Re: F10D Viability
Ah yes it was Allard that did the turbo kits, I knew Janspeed used to sell some tuning gear for them though.
I don't have any more pics that these at the moment, it's actually been off the road for nearly two years now A few months after I got it a radiator hose burst, I stripped out the interior to replace it as they run inside the car & then I found all the rust pictured below & lost all enthusiasm. I got it running again last weekend though & it is due to be welded next month so it should be back on the road very soon .
Have a bonus picture of my old Samurai!
I really may need to get another SJ at some point in the future.

Re: F10D Viability
The Suzuki Alto GL 1.1 litre in the UK is the Maruti F10D engine. 1061cc, hence 1.1. I've been and looked at one at a local second hand dealer to make sure these Altos HAD the F10D, now it's a case of finding out if the F10D block still has the mounting points so it'll fit into a 410....OR an SC100.Rhinoman wrote:Did we get an F10D engine? Altos that look like this one:
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
