410 engine into 413?

Post by penpontgreenwoodwork » Wed May 22, 2013 8:29 pm

Hi all. MOT in a month or so and I think I'm burning a bit of oil. If I fail on emissions, I'm wondering if I can put my donor sj 410 engine/ gearbox/ transmission box into my 413. Any reason why I couldn't? :hmm:

It's not a straight swap, engine & gearbox mounting points are different,

If the mountings were cut and rewelded would it all marry up with the 413 Tbox or would it be best to put the 410 Tbox in too? I'm sure someone's done this before.

I'm sure it would marry up fine if you did the mounts, I think the conversion is more common the otherway around, where the things to consider are mounts & transmission tunnel (i think?) You should be ok because your going from big gearbox to small, as for t box, you don't have to swap it but it would be a good idea as you've still got the higher geared diffs.

You've got an 87 so the gearbox mount is the same as on a 413, only the engine mounts will need to be changed.

Problem is the 970cc will really struggle to push your Sj along with the higher ratio diffs and tcase.

Is it just valve stem oil seal smoke or is it piston rings? I would just try and find another 1.3 would be a lot less hassle or if its just the valve stem oil seals then that's not a hard job to do.

Don't know if it's valve stems or rings. Plan to do the tappets in a few days, is there any way of checking if it's valve stems? Thanks guys. ;)
