Front Disc Guards

During my axle rebuild I found that the one that came off the truck didn't have brake disc guards but the replacement axle does. Are these a valuable addition to the truck or just another thing to bend whilst offroading? Do I carry them over or leave them off?

You should have them as they also act as a spacer, if you decide you dont want them then your best bet is to cut off the guard/excess and leave the bit that clamps in the hub in place. As for leaving them on or not, well its up to you, they are fitted for a reason bur they do tend to trap mud, if your doing a lot of offroading Id probably take them off

As tramp says cut still run them but just cut the most off you can. You will be amazed gow much shit they trap in there!

Mine are still on at the moment but they are a crud catcher. And if / when you bend and they catch anything that spins you end up with a god awful grating noise.

In all my years offroading I've never bent one, but with my wheels they are fairly protected.

It's only 1.6mm thick (guesstimate) so you don't really need to cut the plate down if you don't want to run them, just take them off, it's only the caliper mount that will move and they are floating Callipers anyway so it won't make enough of a difference to worry about.

I'm thinking I'll maybe run them. I can always take them off again if they cause a problem I guess!

Never bent one even when running spacers so they are extra exposed. Worst that has happened was a bit of fling behind one.

I never did bend one. I was just annoyed with all the mud, clay, sand etc that goes behind them and slowly eats at your disc. so i cut and forgot

I managed to bend on of mine, then again I was using at to stop the caliper turning while using a caliper winder!
Bent it back and its all fine now
