samurai handbrake cable???...help!!!!

Post by w8mth » Mon Jun 10, 2013 8:37 pm

Hi all, last week I took my samurai out playing at sibbertoft and managed to break the o/s handbrake cable. After a week of ringing round literally everywhere trying to souce a new one I have failed miserably because as you all probably already know along with many other parts for sj's,they've been discontinued.

My question is, is there a similar cable for another vehicle that can be used instead?...ive already tried a swb vitara cable which has too much slack.

Any help would be great before I blow any more money on this problem.

Thanks in advance!

Which cable is it?

I have a complete cable off my samurai for sale.

Don't think its the same cable. I have the long cable from handbrake to one drum, then a short cable that joins in the middle of the axle to the other drum.

I think I might have the one you are looking for.

Non of the local motor factors could get me the right thing when on of mine snapped, so I bodged one up. It lasted just long enough for the MOT.

I've fitted a transfer brake now, so shouldn't need it. I will see if I have a pic for you. Unless you have one?

I think the one I have spare is number 23 on the second diagram.

These are the ends. The top one is my home made one which didn't last long.

No I still havnt got one.the one thats broke on mine is number 8 on the 3rd diagram.
But I think I may be able to make those cables fit to the bracket attached to the handbrake lever.

I will have a look after work tomorrow and get back to you.

Thanks for the responses, those diagrams are really helpful.

My samurai is number 3 diagram, when my cable snapped. I went to my local motorfactors, I could not get a drivers side cable, but the passenger side cable was available, I bought x2 passenger side (to replace both the cables) I had to swap the fitting (number 14) over to make it drivers side, it was the only difference between drivers & passenger. jobs a fish
