2000 Vitara 1.6 engine rattle
Re: 2000 Vitara 1.6 engine rattle
i cant help unfortunately, i just want to know, i have the same 1600 year 2000 model grand vitara. But the performance doesn't seem too cracking? just a bit sluggish, is this normal for the 1600? or is it just because i am a fat bloke? LOL

hi, I've found my Vitara 4u2 (stupid name) Ok performance wise. It's no hot hatch of course, but adequate. aerodynamics of a brick don't help at motorway speeds.

Re: 2000 Vitara 1.6 engine rattle
Hi all,
took timing cover off at the weekend. Belt etc ok, removed belt and loosened all rockers off, so no pressure on cam.Couldn't see any damaged lobes or anything on the cam. Only thing I could find was some end float on cam shaft, no up and down movement, just in and out. Manual says service limit 0.75mm, that's about what it is, without measuring with dial guage. Do you think the end float could cause the tapping/knocking when the engine is running? couldn't see anything else on the top end.
thanks,
Gaz
