axles

Post by muddy kev » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:28 am

been offered front and rear axles from a vitara. the rear is welded and my sammy only gets used in the mud so not a problem. the guy who has them says will fit sammy with no mods or propshaft change. does any one know if this is correct?

cheers kev

Vitaras don't have a front axle??? you will need to fit the front diff off the vit into the front sammy axle if you are fitting a vitara rear axle.

Also the vit rear axle isn't a straight swap. it is wider and on coils not leaf springs; there are a few options though.

leave it standard width and convert it to leafs (or convert your sj to run a coil set up). the vit diff is in the centre of the axle and not offset like a sammy axle. This can cause a few problems with the rear prop however you can usually get away with it. you will also need to run wheel spacers on the front to try and compensate for the vit axle being wider than a sammy one on the front. (you will probably find that the vit axle is still wider though

OR

you can get the vit rear axle cut down to the length of a sammy axle so that it then has an offset diff then either run it with leaf or coils.

Hope that clears a few thing up

HAVN'T VITARA'S GOT FRONT AXLES? I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT VITARA AXLES ON E-BAY AND THERES FRONT AND REAR! SO IS THIS BULLSHIT? I'M AFTER WIDER AXLES FOR MY SJ410 SO IT'S MORE COMFORTABLE GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS!
WOULD VITARA AXLES BE BEST OR COULD 413 AXLES DO THE JOB OR I'VE SAW SUZUKI CARRY AND RASCAL AXLES ON E-BAY BUT NOT TOO SURE IF THERE ANY WIDER OR ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY GLIDE OVER A SPEED BUMP HA
ALSO THERES TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 70 SERIES AXLES ON AND HE SAYS THEY CAN FIT A SJ IS THIS TRUE OR?
ANY INFO IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! AS I SAY I JUST WANT THE MOST CHEAPEST/EASIEST WIDER AXLES TO BE ABLE TO GLIDE OVER SPEED BUMPS WITHOUT GETTING THROWN EVERYWHERE HA
BEST REGARDS,

Vitaras only have a solid rear axle.

At the front they are not solid, and will not fit on an sj. And why you would want to fit it onto an sj in the first place is beyond me!

The weakest part on and vitara is the front diff, this is because they are made of ally. When you lift it, you make the angles on the drive shafts steeper, and will rip the shafts to shreds.

Best thing you can do is get some sammy axles, fit new perches onto the 2 axles, the same spacings as on the 410 axles. For more comfort you can look into different leaf springs, or just take the speed bumps slower :P

Any axle can be made to fit, be it lancruiser, landrover ect ect. However most of these tend to run on coils, and offcourse can be made to fit, but you would need to fab up new suspension parts, link arms ect ect.

hi fellow,,, ive got a front and rear axle out of a samurai, like henry said,, there wider,(by 6").
you just need to move the perchs, its the easyest solution for wider axles,,
