Kiwizook's resto
Re: Kiwizook's resto
so glad I took the head of my engine. it was filthy, two head bolts were tight as a tiger, most water channels were blocked, and a lot of the oil channels are blocked too. here's some pics of the mess inside the engine
the water channels are blocked in places with a hard salt like substance. anyone know what it is, and how to clean it out? It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

Wire brush. Crystalised anti freeze.
If you actually need to rinse through the channels and cant get at them with a wire brush. Pressure washer. The crystals should dissolve and rinse away.

oh, and anyone know why two valves are brown, and six black? the brown valves also had the brown on the corresponding sparkplugs
thanks jordi, will try that. am also getting a quote tomorow on getting it cleaned at the engine rebuilders in town, just pulling it through their bath I think

If its had a dodgy head or hasn't been burning properly it affects the valves.
I can't remember which colour means what but it's definately a sign it was a poorly engine.

Re: Kiwizook's resto
I'd look at getting some new core plugs for the block also. Not just because they are probably knackered (looking at the crud in the engine), but I think you will find LOTS of corrosion around the water jacket at the bottom of the block.
Worth doing now for a few $ rather than lose cooling capacity, or springing a leak later.

Brown spark plugs = Running lean, Black sooty spark plugs = Running rich.

Isn't light grey/brown the correct mixtureBoyes wrote:Brown spark plugs = Running lean, Black sooty spark plugs = Running rich.
Re: Kiwizook's resto
hmm, I think it might have been burning a little oil, and the plugs were worn out too.
Darell, do you have a diagram to show where the core plugs are in the engine? will still have to take oil sump off, and clean all that. I've never done anything like this before, so it's a good experience and learning curve for me, really enjoying it now
