Vitara misfire
Re: Vitara misfire
I mean oil from the camshaft seal. There's o oil in the distributor cap
Re: Vitara misfire
Got my head back today.the guy said there is no evidence of anything wrong with the head and crack tested it to 120psi so no cracks in it. Time will tell. Will be re fitting at the weekend
Re: Vitara misfire
So all refited and it wouldn't start. 5 minutes head scratching and it seems that it had run out of fuel. Strange. Anyway running on 4 at last and did a 40 mile round trip in this heat with no overheating. I do think it feels under powered though. Timing most probably but I have a problem. My timing pullu has 2 slots on it to slot on to the cam shaft. Obviously ones right ones wrong and not noticing this when stripping I'm unsure of knowing for certain if its set up right. Is there a way of knowing other than the timing marks. Thanks Bob
Re: Vitara misfire
Glad to hear its running good with no miss fire now. If its running then you probably have it in the right slot have you set up the timing with a timing light?
If you can get a pic of the cam Pully I can prob tell you if it's in the correct slot. should be able to undo the front cover and pull it open enough to get a pic.

Re: Vitara misfire
That link pretty much details why I wanted a pic so I could see which key way he had it in.
Re: Vitara misfire
I'll get a pic tomorrow. The pully bolt needs taking off so you can see one of 2 slots that can be used. No I don't have a timing light I'm afraid
Re: Vitara misfire
That link is great thank you. The problem I had was with the key/false key and the 60a. At least I now have something to compare it against. Thanks again
Re: Vitara misfire
You could just have the timing advance slightly out then, this needs to be set up with one ideally as you will loose power if its wrong. so either borrow a mates or pop into a garage and ask them to se it to 10 btdc. should only take 5 mins.
