Irritating window problem...

Post by gogotomogo » Thu Jul 25, 2013 10:58 pm

Hi folks,

First post on here and wondering iif anyone could lend a hand. Ive had a 2000 reg vitara jx 1.6 8v for about a month now and love it, perfect for dog walking, shooting etc but the electric windows tilt forward and stick up when rolling up. I read that you had to adjust the position of the bolts holding the pane of glass inside the door card and while i was fiddling with this putting the drivers window up and down to test it and it stopped working all together....in the down position! my first guess is fuse as the passenger side has stopped working aswell which hopefully means I havent knackered the motor but cant find a fuse for the windows anywhere!

Any help is much appreciated cheers!

Josh

Had a search and found the reset should be a silver disc under the fuse box with a hole in it.
Push something suitable through the hole to reset it. !!

Hope that's correct.
I can't find a Vitara picture, but here's one from a Jimny, so I guess there the same..

hmm I found that disc thing and pushed it but it didnt feel like a button so i took it out and then apart and theres nothing underneath it apart from a tiny bolt holding a bit of metal in place that connects the two points of the plug. I am totally stumped.

Hello everyone,

problem fixed. Thought I would post the solution on here so nobody else has to pay £70 for a mechanic to trace wires all around your car only to replace a fuse haha

If you take off the plastic dash underneath the steering wheel via the two screws and pull it out towards you (not straight down) there is a relay behind it that you cant see without removing it. This relay is protected by a standard car fuse. Replace this and hey presto, working windows!

Cheers for all the input folks,

Josh

Glad you fixed it. Thanks for letting us know.
Obviously all the vitaras are not the same with this breaker jobbie
(That's nothing unusual with Suzuki)
I know the Grand Vitara windows are just protected by a fuse
