I don't really carry parts around. I've got a few basic tools (including a feeler gauge), jump leads, a tow rope, a tow strap (the rope is better but I've used the strap for other things before) a coat, a waterproof, a towel, swimming shorts and a picnic blanket.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Tools, HT leads, a spare P/S-alt belt (both the same length), bulbs, water.

When I had points I would always carry a spare set of points and a condenser in the glove box with some feeler gauges and a screwdriver just in case

If I'm going away for the weekend I might take oils, a set of props, front shafts and CVs. No need to take spare diffs, they don't explode like land rover ones

I take my portable toolkit, a decent jack, sometimes axle stands, fuses, bolts, bits of wire...
I'd say convert to electronic ignition!!! :)
