Wider Tyres sticking out of arches, legal?

Post by Sj410red » Mon Sep 02, 2013 11:32 am

Hi all, just fitted 32mm spacers to my sj410, it has the smaller plastic arches fitted but the tyres protrude upto 1" looking from above, is this legal? I have trawled many forums and seems to be a grey area that it would pass an mot ok but plod may think different. Any answer please, thanks Richard.

If you get a copper on a bad day (or a jobs worth) he will pull you for it. It's a non-endorsable (no points but fixed penalty fine) offence. Code 380 under construction and use regs. "No wing/mudguard fitted"

But he's you are correct it will pass an MOT as it is not covered in the MOT.

As far as I'm aware you can have the sidewall bulging out but all tread surface that makes contact with the road must be covered, I've never had any issues with a few mm of tread sticking out slightly.

And they can't dear to look at the Land Rover long enough to notice.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

If you like the look leave it pal. If you like extended arches get some on and you will be all legal

I run 235/75x15 on 7" alloys that stick out about 1" with the offset. They look cool and I have never had any bother from the cops
