body coulour?

Post by yar1950 » Tue Sep 03, 2013 7:44 pm

Hi All, i'm a newbie and hope you don't mind me signing up to asked a long winded question. I bought a 2001 Grand Vitara from a dealer. I paid probably over the odds at £2325 with 92000 on the clock but it was nice condition compared to others I looked at and had the 3 month dealers warranty. The gears are very notchy and the wife can't get them in at all so it's going back for checking out on Friday. Now my question, the car is black the dealer said it has bluey/black on the logbook but I have not received the new one yet to clarify. We did a check on the vehicle and it has not been resprayed, no crashes but it is blue on the check details. When looking under the bonnet everything is like a army greyish green colour. Is this usual with the Vitara to be a different colour to the main body?
Any help appreciated.

thanks

I'll check under the bonnet of our GV can't remember if its a different colour.

As for the notchy gears, check the clutch pedal where the pin goes through connecting it to the clutch master cylinder. If its anything like ours it's ovaled out so there is quite a bit of play before the clutxh starts to disengage and doesn't quite fully disengage. Also might be worth getting them to bleed the clutch system to make sure there's no air in it.

Reminds me I must get around to pulling the pedal out, welding the hole up and re-drilling it this weekend

Thanks Scottie, that does make sense. I am taking it back in the morning and they are going to see if there are any adjustments they can make. I assumed it would be bleeding the clutch but I bet they don't think to try the pedal pin.

Scottie, they checked the pedal today and the hole was elongated. The gears are slightly better going in now but still knotchy not smooth. Perhaps this is how 2001 vitaras are?
