MPG?

Post by ben_moto501 » Fri Nov 20, 2009 8:21 pm

Hi everyone,
I would be very interested if people could post some mpg figures? Together with whatever engine mods you have done. This is my first SJ413 and I'm a little shocked with the amount of fuel it uses!
I have a Weber carb fitted and a snorkel but otherwise my engine is pretty standard. I do a fair bit of road use as I use it to go to work and back everyday and I'm not the best at driving slowly but I've worked out a pretty poor mpg of 25?!? A £40 fill up of fuel only lasts me 200 miles!
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is this normal or is my right foot heavier than i thought?!

Thanks!

Ben

Mines the same mate. Iv got the 1.3 with a webber carb, and i was shocked at how much petrol it drinks. I thought it had a leak when i first got it  Its only slightly better on fuel than my impreza, and thats seriously thirsty!!

yep 25mpg is pretty respectable, i get around 22mpg with mud terrain tyres and rocklobster, I have an all time worst record of 18mpg when my asian carb was running rich, before i replaced it with a weber, I did find i had better mpg with road orientated tyres, some thing to do with rolling resistance,

I run a 1.3 with a nikki carb, 410 t-box and 30" muddies. i get about 80mile to £20.

SJ's are not the most fuel efficient, combine the fact that they are aerodynamicly similar to throwing a breeze block down a wind tunnel.

my best fuel saving advice is sit behind lorrys, the drag created by a lorry will help pull you along, most noticable when going up hill.

my old 1.3 sammy was single point inj,, that was really good on fuel,, webbers are a bit like buckets, we ran a 2.1ltr beetle with twin 48s, ithink we used to get about 11mpg. but dans right, depends on what gear ratios, tyre size, engine mods, extra weight and its only a 1.3cc.
ive oppted to go 1.6vit in mine becuase of what ive just mentioned, it may be worth your while going down that road. my road car is a merc ml500 (5ltr v8) on lpg but its got great mpg, as the engine doesnt work hard.

MY 410 IS THURSTY ASWELL!!! I'VE GOT A 2.2 VEC AND THATS BETTER ON THE JUICE THAN THE SJ!
I GET ABOUT 100 MILES FOR 20 QUID, AND THATS GOING AT 30MPH EVERYWHERE EVEN ON 40MPH ROADS  GO ANY FASTER AND THE ENGINE SWALLOWS WHATS IN THE TANK!

So what do we think the answer could be? I hate the idea of getting under 30mpg with any engine be it the standard 1.3 or the Vitara 1.6! I used to have a Peugeot 306 1.9 diesel (non turbo) which happily did 55-60mpg! Has anyone fitted this engine into an SJ before? I know it wouldn't be as good mpg as that but even 35-40 would be a great improvement!!
Also you would benefit from other perks as it's a diesel ie... Lots of torque and the ability to swim better than the petrol engines!!

I am quite keen on this conversion so if anyone has put this engine in before I'd love to hear from you!!
