saw a thread on another website where one guy was using 90w marine oil (which is way too thick) but yea just what you got lying around.

You ask a hundred times you'll get a hundred different answers. I used automatic transmission fluid.

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Sae20 is the recommended grade from SU so for the best performance you should use that. Engine oil is too thick in cold temps for the correct piston dampening, I could really notice the difference in power during winter running engine oil, the thicker the oil the slower the piston rises, therefore the engine will not be getting all the air it needs fast enough.

Likewise too thin and the piston will rise too fast causing a lean mixture during acceleration, therefore to avoid flat spots you will have to run a richer mixture to have a 'correctly tuned carb'

Essentially you can tune it to run with whatever oil you put in but the way I see it is why use anything other than what the manufacturer of the carb recommends

red 3in1 is too thin (think it's around sae10)
blue 3in1 is sae 20 so a good option
brake fluid is too thin

I had to reread that. At first I thought you were going to put tea in your carb. :hahaha:
