Catastrophe waiting to happen?

So the heap of a lwb that I own is due its mot

The sills have been repaired in the past and quite frankly its
A bodged up heap of shit. How the last mot inspector past
It is beyond me. And too top that the whole underside has been
Painted with that wax oil black sludge crud and then coated with
Old engine oil.

So any one had to deal with this crap before? Im picturing
Flames and lots of smoke as soon as a welder gets near it

A damn good steam clean and a very sharp wall paper scraper usually does to clean the area to be welded.

I recently cut up my scraper with a gas axe and to be fairthe underseal and sound proofing didn't burn half as much as you would expect.

As always foam fire extinguisher / bucket of water on stand by.

I've been welding some cills in an LDV van this week, underseal burning away no problem whatsover, they hardly put any on, or paint or anything else come to that!!!! Usually when welding cars your always looking for what might be burning, didn't bother checking once!!! Its actually more badly built than a Land Rover!!!!

As jordi says scrap most of the shit off and then grind back the rotten metal and chop it out. Also thinners works well if I remember

I would get as much of that crap off as possible before welding near it, the fumes will be nasty and you'll end up with a nasty headache.

My sj sills where all filler, nothing like the smell of burning filler, plenty of ventilation and of you go.
