Seat belts & the MOT

Post by Jordi » Thu Oct 24, 2013 8:16 pm

I know seat belts are an MOT requirement but....

I'm looking at chopping out where the inertia reel mounts into the body panel. If I fit harnesses will they do for MOT man?

When I used to compete in rallying, our car was road legal, so had to have an MOT. That only had harnesses, so I don't see why not. We fitted eyebolts to the existing seatbelt mounts and all was fine.

Had 3 point harness in my old SJ for 7 years, passed every time, the inertia seat belts went in the bin...I put little speakers where the spool use to sit!

I'm looking at 3 point harness bolted to the seat sub frame / reinforced floor pan at the front and some 50x50 box welded into the floor pan at the back.

Im just not sure if the harnesses need to be properly EU or BS standard marked?

Cheers for the info chaps, harnesses it is!

Jordi mine were Cobra ones that matched the seats, no idea if they had any kite mark on them and my MOT guy never checked. They were bolted onto the rear at the same point the back seats went.

Tbh I don't think my MOT man will care. So long as something is fitted.

It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

What ever you do do NOT bother with the really cheap belts on ebay, they are a joke with a bit of tin on each end, I can not believe they are allowed to sell them as seat belts would not trust the fittings with my worst enemy ( well maybe).
2nd vote for securon belts much better quality and fittings.
