Engines
Engines
Just because I'm curious and thinking Does anyone know what sort of straight forwardish engine swaps there are for the Vitara?. Any that use a different gearbox to the standard Vitara?. Any help or ideas would be cool.
Re: Engines
J20a out of a GV is probably one of the easiest. Will bolt up to the 1.6 gearbox but needs a modded flywheel.
Re: Engines
Being what mate?. A 2.0l I assume?. Do you use the gear box with this?.
Re: Engines
Sorry I meant can you use the gearbox
Re: Engines
Yeah a 2.0 16v with 126bhp.
I edited my last post, it needs the flywheel modifying, the crank bolt patterns are different and a section needs to be machined flat. Apart from that it bolts straight up to the 1.6 gearbox, will need to make new engine mounts and there's quite a bit of wiring involved as well, however the 2.0l has a separate engine harness so that makes life slightly easier.

Re: Engines
Would it be worth it or is the change not that noticeable?.
Re: Engines
Here's a pic of what needs to be done to the flywheel inner bolt holes are the 1.6 outer 2.0
It's a pretty much unheard of conversion over here to be honest but it's almost 1/3 more power and torque. I'm planning on replacing my 1.6 8v in the Sj with one, have it in the workshop already
What 1.6 is in yours at the moment?

Re: Engines
I really don't know if I'm honest. I think it's the 1.6 8v

Re: Engines
1.6 16v is a good engine! easy as well in a vit i would guess!
Not really worth the effort though unless you get the engine for peanuts!
