windscreen rubber leaking :(

Post by Jay18 » Wed Nov 06, 2013 4:27 pm

the mrs has been complaining about the floor being wet and that her trainers she leaves in the floor pan are wet so i cleaned out the vent under the windscreen on the outside, but wasnt sure about that being the cause so i took the little plastic bit on the top of the dash on the passenger side where the wiper motor and bolt for dash is and there is a little leak coming through the windscreen rubber :(

is there an easy way of fixing this? without removing the screen or rubber, any sort of screen rubber refurbisher to soften the rubber up?

think i might have to use silicone on the inside to stop the leak if it will work..

Lift the rubber on the outside and clean under the rubber and the screen surround and seal it with a high quality polyurethane adhesive.

Or just rip the carpet up and leave the bungs out!

i had that on my old windscreen, just took the windscreen out and the rubber off, gave the rubber, glass and windscreen a good ol' clean and put it back together.

Just be very careful with the screen while you're removing it! ;)

I use old newspapers under the carpet to soak up the moisture and replace them occasionally.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Never leaked but I do the same as Tim, screen out and give the glass, rubber and frame a damn good clean and refit.

I've always got water when it rains, have no idea where it comes in. I've done the heater, changed the screen and replaced the seal where the screen folds. I have even had the dash out and had someone hose the car while I hunted for leaks and yep that was the only time it stayed dry :er:
Now there is no carpet or bungs. Passengers learn not to streech their feet out in the rain :D
