Forced air induction, best engine to use? Best setup?

Post by Jay18 » Sun Nov 24, 2013 6:49 pm

I've been thinking about boost, just cause I like the sound of a spooling turbo and because it's different, not bothered about turbo lag or anything like that..

So do I use a fuel injected or carb'd engine?

Do I use a turbo or supercharger?

And is there a manifold out there that just happens to fit the 1.3/1.6 engine? If I was to get a turbo...

I read somewhere that the 1.3 can handle up to 8psi of boost?

Any thoughts on this mad idea? Haha

If I really wanted a turbo SJ, I'd do an engine swap.

Well I'm not planning on turbo'ing the 1.0 if that's what you mean lol
I'm thinking either a 1.3 or 1.6 maybe even turbo diesel? I know you guys say 1.6 TD but they are not cheap and not easy to find..

I doubt something like a SR20 would fit in a zuk and would be very expensive lol

A diesel turbo engine would weigh a LOT. If you really want more grunt drop a Vit lump in the wee beastie.
If it ticks over...leave it

I'd only go for a turbo engine if I was trying to build a fast road SJ. For general purpose "there's no replacement for displacement."

A well tuned 1.6 8v with an SU would probably be plenty. If you're feeling adventurous and want a bit more then a 16 valve MPFi
Unless you were running 38 inch tyres or you had lowered, lightened and anti-roll'd an SJ I can't see you needing more than 100hp.

If you're dead set on having lots of power and a turbo, get a Vauxhall C20LET, better known as a Red-Top turbo. Your zook will go like a rocket ship.

At your age I wouldn't even consider it as the second you tell the insurance company they will whack a huge premium on it!

Vtec? 1.6, 16v 160bhp? but remember it spins the wrong way and you have to rev the t*ts off it for power

I think I have decoded what I want to do, something that isn't going to be hugely expensive, something that keeps it in the lower tax bracket...

I'm thinking 1.3 injection, should stay in the lower tax bracket and I believe it bolts straight up to the 413 gearbox as it's the same block as a 413?

Only thing is the wiring and would I need to fit a catalytic converter?
