You can fit a VW TD in the SJ but the best one to do is the 1.6 TD, basically if you can find an engine and gearbox to put in it all you would need to do is make new engine mounts and gearbox mounts, it's all down to how much work your willing to do

Ladaman had a suzuki ignis sport engine in his samurai, the iggy sport engine is mounted to a jimny gearbox, I read that fitting the 413 gear selector means the gearbox mounts bolt in normally in a 413/samurai and using the jimny engine mounts means it bolts straight in, then it's just the wiring...

Best and most common mod is a Vitara 1.6 8 valve. The 16 valve has too much wiring to do.

Avoid any diesel engine as the weight of it will bugger the zook in almost every way, plus it is the fuel of Satan himself.

Fit any engine you want. Depends on your skill and budget.

As said easiest is vit 1.6 8v. If you want more power and don't mind the wiring go 16v. Ladaman is running a 1.5 ignis engine on a jimny gearbox.

A lot of people have fitted 1.5vauxhall diesels or 2.0 petrol. I've seen ford pinto, 3.5 rover v8, audio quattro powered LJ.

SJ brakes are pretty good and more than enough to handle a Vitara engine. If you go the V8 route, many have tried and failed, then yes a brake upgrade would be needed.

Why bother fitting a V8 in an SJ? It'd make more sense to fix a Range Rover than break an SJ.

There's loads of unnecessary crap you can lose from a Range Rover or Discovery to make them lighter. I think I'd do a truck cab and rear cage.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

It's an SJ not a sports car!

No matter what engine you fit you won't want to go more than 80mph in an SJ anyway so a brake upgrade won't really make any difference  Sj brakes are more than enough for the SJs weight anyway so it's not needed, to be honest if the brakes were any better then heavy braking at speed would get very interesting! Have you driven your SJ yet :er:  That said you can fit GV front discs and callipers but then you need to run 16" wheels, Lwb vit callipers are also a bit bigger and fit with 15" wheels but they don't make a huge difference.

Also brake servos don't actually make the brakes any better, they just reduce the amount of effort needed at the pedal.

Suzuki engines are good engines, don't know why you would fit anything else to be honest, there's so many Suzuki engines to choose from that you can make fit and all are tuneable.

Also please try to use proper spelling and grammar instead of txt language. Thanks

Most.common upgrade for brakes it to fit SJ discs and caliper to the rear. Slight braking improvement and it stops the drums filling with mud.
