Hand brake off and on.

Post by timwilks13 » Fri Jan 10, 2014 8:50 am

Changed handbrake shoes and cable last night, got it all put back together but when the hand brake is off, its on. I have adjusted the nuts on that holding bracket after the lever so its slackened right off, and its still on! Have i done something wrong or will the shoes just wear down slightly as i drive?!

Have you adjusted the adjusters in the hand brake?

What adjuster is it? mine is the bung on the drum stick screwdriver in type (if that makes sense) and when I put new shoes in I moved the adjusters to the lowest, and had loads of adjustment before they hit the drum.

ah i dont know then, i have this picture of the hand brake. first time ive ever fiddled with it so not sure what does what. The only thing i have fiddled with is underneath the body where the handbrake lever attaches to the cable there is a little bracket that holds the cable in place, and i have loosened that right off. Is there something in the drum itself i should be playing with?!

The cogs on the right hand side covered in mud are the adjusters. Need winding right in with the drum off then adjusting up through the hole in the drum.
