The 4u was an 8V motor, if its a late 16V then it may need an immobiliser.

surely it won't need an immobiliser with megasquirt???
as for the EGR system i guess its default closed so I can just leave it disconnected

I found the correct wiring diagram for it here:

and the mystery connector is indeed an EGR solenoid so I will be taking that off!

No with MS the immo won't be needed, the wiring is different on the immo models though. I have a couple of supplements that cover the two models with the stepper motor (not solenoid) EGR, I'll root out the links.

That would be cool... I do know that MS doesn't support anything EGR related so I will probably end up removing it all and blocking everything off :)

My carby setup hasn't got any EGR on it so the engine should still run OK!
I think there must be a IAC valve on it somewhere :)

OK Ive removed the EGR unit and solenoid so won't be using that!!!
Going to make a small blanking plate to cover up hole left by the EGR unit
Also there isn't an IAT sensor so I will be getting a GM one off a Vauxhall and probably attach it into the air intake pipe

I have also found that there isn't any sign of a PWM valve. The only valve not on my pics yesterday is a 2-pin valve connected into the air system. Pretty sure its just a fast idle solenoid... will get a pic of that but my phones out of battery

The IAT could be in the airbox on the 16V. The IAC is a PWM solenoid, there is no fast idle solenoid like there is on a Bosch/GM system.

Right looking through the FSM supplement for MPFI...

apparently on early models the IAT is combined with the MAF sensor and on late models its in the air filter housing... so I might have missed it!!!
As I'll be using MAP I may get a seperate one instead.. will save using the massive plastic air hose!
Easy enough to drill a hole and poke a GM IAT in though

This one shows my ISC valve in the FSM... OK so its only supposed to have 2 wires... thats OK then :)

There are two possible wiring diagrams for the engine/ECU, the model without immo is covered by this supplementary FSM:

http://www.rhinoman.org/manuals/Vitara/99501_61A20.pdf

The later immo models are covered by this supplement:

http://www.rhinoman.org/manuals/Vitara/99501_60G10.pdf

Do you know the part number of the original ECU?
