Post by stevepsj413 » Mon Feb 10, 2014 6:45 pm

Not had a good few days, managed to snap my shock mount on front drivers side on Saturday, mended that then managed to snap a leaf spring on my way home from work today, I wouldn't be bothered but ive only been driving on the road, im sure i didn't have these sorts of problems when i drove £200 scrappers with only a few months T&T on, my summer project zuk's fast being stripped for spares!

Have you exstended the bump stops mate if not that is why the shock and spring has snapped
I have a calmini 3" lift kit on mine 1" springs and 2" shackle reverse kit and I exstended my bumpe stops about 2" as when ur spring goes flat that is where ur bump stop should hit the axle

Ye I know the feeling what ever I do to my truck it has to be able to be movable to get to collage lol the the good thing is I have Wednesday afternoons off so I can crack on and do things

What size tyres are you running? Get some standard length shackles back on it! The shocks are being maxed out at ride height with those shackles I bet and this is putting more strain on the springs.

Looking at your pics you don't need the lift for your tyres so just fit standard shackles, it will improve the handling and ride quality and stop problems like this as well as improve the offroad performance.

There are no advantage to running long shackles with stock suspension just lots of negatives, some of which you are experiencing.

There's also no need to go spoa, look at most of the SJs on here. We are nearly all spua. I would especially advise against spoa if it's a daily drive, keep it low and stable!

What he said ^^^

I will never go spoa on my zook I would rather spend £300 on a calmini 3" lift which I have already done

yeah thanks for the advice, i got this sj as someone else abandoned project, its had the shackle lift and its running shocks off a ford maverick but the springs are standard, and yeah the tyres are only 15" camac 4x4s. The shocks on it are crap to be honest but i dont have any standard ones to put back on it, think ive got the standard shackles in one of the various boxes of spares i got with it, think i mite swap them over when i get a spare couple of hours, cheers.

ford ranger shocks are probably far too stiff, they are off a vehicle twice the weight. if the suspension is standard some original shocks would be the best bet.

A lot of people just throw parts on SJs and don't think about if they will actually work together without causing issues.
