One tooth out will have a big effect, you just need to pull the belt off and then rotate the cam a tooth. Its best to mark the belt and pulleys with paint before you start in case you get lost in the middle of the job.

Timing Belt
Quick question to make sure, how many lines on the flywheel after 10 degrees (B.T.D.C) Is 0 degrees (T.D.C) ? Many thanks

I think 1 line is 2°, mine is 4 marks and 8°btdc, but don't take that as gospel.

Ahhh this is confusing What do you mean yours is "4 marks and 8°btdc" pal ? I was under the impression that I had to get it at 0° to be TDC ?

For cam timing you want the crank at TDC
The 8 - 10 or what ever number BTC is for ignition timing, so of no importance for changing a cam belt.

So am I right in thinking to get number 1 piston at top top dead center, I'll get the 10 degrees flywheel mark aligned with the pointer on the bell housing then carry on turning the crankshaft until the fith line on the flywheel past 10° is aligned with the pointer as each line is 2°, it should be at 0° (T.D.C) ? The rotor arm should also be aligned to the 1 spark plug terminal. Thanks for your patients

Is the timing belt cover damaged? from what I recall it should have '0' marked on it. The Vit is marked 0, 10 and 20.

The only marking the cover has on it is an arrow head at 12 O'clock which should correspond with the cam sprocket if in time Which I'm not 100 % certain it is.

Morning folks, right after many hours of head scratching and Suzuki club forum scanning. I've figured out that my engine is firing on cylinder four instead of number one ( I think ?? ). Fly wheel mark is at T.D.C and all the sprockets are in line with the timing marks on the cover and the rotor arm is pointing at number 4 on the dizzy cap
