Newbie from essex

Hi All,

My names Matt as you you probably guessed from above from Essex, i have just purchased a Vitara JX T reg with a mate of mine. It all started off a few weekends back me and the friend went out in our mates fronty along with two Jimnys, and we were hooked lol. By the monday we owned a 4x4 so far we are pretty impressed with our bargin paid next to nothing for it, now being so cheap it was bound to have a couple of things wrong with it. So i had a good look round it and could only find two things wrong.

1) drivers front drive shaft seems to be broken at the cv joint as when in 4wd it makes a clicking sound and when i turn the hub lock on it only spins the very outside edge of the cv and again the same clicking noise.

2) seems to have a rather bad oil leak, now i havent had time to borrow a ramp but it seems to be coming out half way down the sump so guessing its cracked. this looks like a right pig of a job.

Now its completely standard at the moment, but are plans are as follows set of tyres around 235/75/15, a 2" lift but we were looking at the block kits mainly as we both have daily drivers so aren't looking to spend a fortune and aren't planning any mountain expedititions, snorkel and eventually a winch bumper and winch.

Lots of vitaras seem to get sold with snapped shafts or knackered CVs as people get bored of changing them. If you are not a hooligan with them they are fine though.

No idea on the sump but I would have thought it would be pretty hard to crack one. I beat the crap out of one with a big mallet and it just bends.

Give the underneath a good clean to try and find the source of the leak. It's all repairable, or just put a tray underneath it and keep topping it up

to the forum, could just be leaking from the sump gasket, could try carefully tightening the sump bolts but they don't need to be torqued up very much so use a small 1/4" drive and be careful not to snap them. Best thing to do is give the engine a good degrease and lean though so you can work out where it's leaking from.

Evening all, little update I managed to get a shaft last Saturday fitted that and went out Sunday for some fun. I was amazed how much they do. Its completely standard and went everywhere. Great fun.

As for the sump I looked at that last night at my mates workshop used a die grinder on where i believed it was coming from and low an behold 2 holes in the sump pan. So some liquid metal straight over them seems to have stooped it bit of a cheat but didn't have time to empty oil clean all the that off and weld it. It will do for now (hopefully)
