Soft top
Soft top
I am officially declaring spring in Kent !! Hard top going to shed and soft top going on. When you put your soft tops on which is best way to do it ? I've done front first but having trouble with back poppers and studs. It's the original soft top, don't think it's ever been on though ??? Thanks

Re: Soft top
when they get older they start to shrink slightly, i used to have hell on with mine. Try doing the back poppers with the window unzipped, and get someone else to really pull on the fabric (without tearing it), but there's no easy trick i ever found really, just a lot of pulling and swearing!

Re: Soft top
Cos we all know the easiest way to fit a soft top if to fit the front first. Then tie a rope to the back of the soft top thread it under the car and attach it to the starter motor and tension it up with that.Jordi wrote:What's this got to do with engines?

Re: Soft top
Leave it somewhere warm in the house first as it makes it a lot more supple.
If it is a full size hood get someone to stand at the back with you and pull down on the rear support frame so the whole rear of the roof moves down closer to the rear door. Once the studded poppers are on across the rear door it should keep it taught while you do the smaller ones along the sides.

Thanks I'll get the kids tugging it when they get home
Re: Soft top
Is this for an SJ/Sami? If so you should use the tension straps to keep the hood tight against the screen fixing and also pull the support bar down at the rear to take most of the stress out of the popper fixings. Lots of SJs don't seem to have the straps which I guess is why so many hoods have poppers missing...sharon wrote:Thanks I'll get the kids tugging it when they get home
As above...nice warm hood makes life easier..!!..
