Alternator drive belt problem
Alternator drive belt problem
Hey guys,
anyone have this issue... basically i've got a Samurai SJ413 (1988) on an E plate. Recently ordered a fan belt from ebay and it said it was for my car. It was a 10x763 belt.
It didn't even closely fit.
I've looked on ebay for similar and all the belts listed are the same size as what i've got. My friend gave me the correct belt size which is 10x820 (minimum) so hoping to source one within the next day or so.
But have you had any similar problems finding a correct sized belt?

Re: Alternator drive belt problem
Buying parts on eBay is often a troublesome situation with SJs as there have been so many variants and small changes over the years.
For service items it's much better to just go to your local motor factors.

Re: Alternator drive belt problem
I bought an alternator belt from halfords (yes I know!) that like your first was way to small, I went back with my old belt and they had it listed as the wrong size in there parts book,
Re: Alternator drive belt problem
Excellent, thanks for the info. Halfords I tried this morning and they no longer stock fan belts at all. Same with the Worthing branch...
Will try my local motor factors tomorrow morning as the person I bought the SJ from, had in fact changed the alternator - yet put the old belt back on that was frayed and some grooves missing!

Re: Alternator drive belt problem
I just took my old one down to a local hydraulics supplier and the guy behind the counter went and found me replacement. Only cost about £3
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Alternator drive belt problem
the one on mine that came off was a 10x820 and that was even a little small. The one I got off ebay, which again was smaller was 764 and that didn't fit at all.
They seem to be wrongly listed alot of them :(
