Re: PAINT YER WHEELS
Although Hammerite says "straight to rust" I wouldn't even Paint it on bare metal...it's crap
The only time I've ever had good results with hammerite that had actually lasted is when it's painted over a good etch primer.

I used cheap rattle cans on the alloys, wire brushed them up and primed with white (3 coats) then satin black 3 coats. Baked on over a convector heater. Seemed to take quite well as it kept the alloy wheel nice and warm to the touch.

Here, here. I think saying it's crap makes it sound better than it is!ScottieJ wrote:Although Hammerite says "straight to rust" I wouldn't even Paint it on bare metal...it's crap
It used to be awesome before the environmentalists got on the scene.

Re: PAINT YER WHEELS
I do like hammerite, I do struggle to get the aerosol to take on aluminium bits though, it just sort of runs away from the edges of the metal,

I usually call it Hammershite but thought i'd be polite!Ladaman wrote:Here, here. I think saying it's crap makes it sound better than it is!ScottieJ wrote:Although Hammerite says "straight to rust" I wouldn't even Paint it on bare metal...it's crap

Re: PAINT YER WHEELS
There was a special thinners needed to clean brushes on the earlier hammerite paints but now tin says white spirit.....i always use cellulose thinners anyway.......

Rattle cans...kill all the rust, prime it, top coat then a ton of lacquer. Lasts for yonks.
If it ticks over...leave it

Ha ha, haven't had any of that since last Christmas, it destroyed the fire grate. Don't think it would have been too wise as the tyres were fitted at the time.dan_2k_uk wrote:Should have used the super coal!Jordi wrote:Baked on over a convector heater
