prop shafts

Post by Vitara Tim » Sat May 17, 2014 11:46 pm

Hi to everyone, I'm new to having a vit and have got a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with, sorry if these questions have been asked before.
Firstly do all vitara models have the same prop shafts on, I'd guess LWB ones may have longer ones, but do all SWB vitara have the same ones.

Secondly is the passage side drive shaft the same on all models of vitara.

I have a 1998 SWB 1.6 and in need of a new rear prop as the front UJ is on its way out and after a couple of spare drive shafts, so if anyone has any spares that would be good :D

Thanks

Dont know for sure as i've never had a vit but i would think they are they same... Someone will be along soon to confirm etc i'm sure..

However if its just a worn UJ why do you need a new prop? Just change the UJ
if in doubt, FLAT OUT!

mans tool kit > duct tape, wd40 and a bfh is all you ever need

The prop-shaft spline count changed around 96. The passenger side driveshafts are all interchangeable except the V6 and diesel models which have a wider chassis.

Thank you Rhinoman, best take mine off then and count the splines and thanks for the info on the drive shafts, I was thinking of getting a propshaft just for ease and time of changing it and then get a new UJ and replace the worn one, then I'd have a spare one just in case.
Where can you get replacement UJs from I've had a look online and can't seem to find any.

You should be able to get the UJs from any motor factors

Thanks, thought it wouldn't be that hard to get some,

Just another question, how hard is it to change the front diff pinion bearing in the front diff as I've checked my front shaft and there's play at the diff end but its not the UJ moving.
