virtual lift

Post by donkeychomp » Tue May 27, 2014 10:09 pm

Has anyone done this to a Vit yet? Don't think a 2" suspension lift will leave enough room for 31" tyres and I don't want to lift the body...unless I have to.

The inside of the arches have plastic trim there, so I guess I can remove all that and cut the arch and the trim. Is it that simple?

Guess so. I'll wait till I have the new tyres and see how it goes.

with my 32" tyres on my vit i have 3" suspension and 3" body lift.
plus had to cut the arches a bit and hammer the bulk head in a bit to make clearance and had to hammer the rear tub in a bit so they didnt rub with the articulation.
but i have lost some steering lock because the tyres hit the chassis rails when turning sharply.
thats on gv 16" steels so if your wheels sit further out you may avoid some of the issues.

Thanks Hodgie...it's an idea but a hell of a job!

When I have the new tyres I'll pop over to my mate Stu and see what he thinks. I got 31's on my old SJ with no problems but I think the Vitara will put up more of a fight!

Yeh looks a mission, I'm running 29" tyres, offset rims, 32mm spacers, 3" sus and body lift. They still rub the back of the arch, even after I've chopped it back as much as possible. Picked up some modified wish bones the other day for 30 quid, will have to decide whether or not I'm doing the widening mod once they are on.

Have you got your snorkel connected up yet? I'm still trying to find some suitable hose for mine, I'm thinking chopped up exhaust pipe now.

They will rub worse with that much spacing because the wheel will travel in a much greater arc. With 29" tyres I only ran offset rims and a 2" suspension lift.

I think with some work you could virtual lift a vitara to fit se pretty big tyres, just gotta get over the fear of chopping loads out, rebuilding the bulkhead etc.
