Exhaust trouble
Hi,hoping some Sage can help me here.
It`s the first time I`ve come across a car with 2 cats.My exhaust is blowing badly at the join between the down pipe cat and the pipe which carries the second cat.A garage I`ve been to has offered to cut the down pipe after the first cat and the pipe behind the second cat and welding in a straight pipe eliminating the second cat completely. Is this doable and would it have any adverse effect on the car?Or are there any better solutions?Cheers in advance.
GV 2.0 2003.

Re: Exhaust trouble
Very doable but will the loss of one cat (meow) screw your emissions come MOT time? If you can get away with one then all is good!
If it ticks over...leave it

Re: Exhaust trouble
I assume it would run OK as the second O2 sensor is just after the first cat.
No idea what it would do to the emissions at MOT time.
I see that section costs about 150 quid.
Would do at least until next test...

Re: Exhaust trouble
The garage that have offered to do the job also do MOT`s so I presume they would have taken that into consideration.I`m assuming 2.0 GV`s have 2 cats to satisfy stricter Japanese emissions.

Re: Exhaust trouble
Might be worth just sticking a new one on to skip out on the aggro later!
Apparently the 2nd cat acts as a furnace for any unburnt fuel that wasn't caught by the first cat, so will probably effect your emissions if you remove it. But you probably won't get a check engine light or anything like that
This *says* that it fits (would check first, call them maybe) and is only £70...
Also, make sure you take your old one to a scrappy and weight it in, you'll get good money for catalytic converters! Took 3 or 4 down a few month ago and got just over £150 for them!

Re: Exhaust trouble
Haha my mot man is a bit like that with emissions
You mean a snorkel for the exhaust?
You don't really need one just keep the revs up in water and no water gets in
When I eventually sort out my ecu I set up a "idle up" button for situations like deep water and winching... Not that I have a winch yet

Japan, like most countries, uses European emissions standards.
