They can also issue a section 59

SECTION 59 OF THE POLICE REFORM ACT - ANTI SOCIAL DRIVING OFFENCES
New laws in respect of certain anti social driving offences can now be dealt with by Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.

Basically what that means is if you are seen:

Driving in a careless or inconsiderate manner
Driving on common land, a footpath or bridle way or any land which is not part of a road
Driving in a manner which is causing/has been causing, or is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.
Then a Section 59 warning can be issued to you. This warning is placed against both the driver and the vehicle and lasts for 12 months.

If the driver of the vehicle or the vehicle with the warning issued to it is then seen driving in any of those conditions again in the next 12 months the vehicle can be seized and, if not collected after paying for recovery and storage costs, it will be crushed. Please note that this relates to either the driver with the Section 59 or the vehicle.

Ahhh yes I forgot about the classic section 59... general thing for any motor related offences

I think though a section 59 is usually something the police will issue on the spot rather than if you get reported.

Thing is there's so many land wardens around the plain that they do catch you and then call the police in ;)

Or if like my mate, who is a bee keeper with hives all over the plain, you can get a pass that allows you to go places where most of us cant

They are actively policing the plain now. Heard of a few people getting a £30 fine and being told if they are caught again their vehicles will be seized and destroyed.

One of them doesn't want to go up there again for fear of losing his vehicle if he accidentally strays from a right of way. Its serious stuff!

I've never had an issue when I have been genuinely lost and ended up not on a byway, the plain never used to be well signposted so it was quite easy to take the wrong route. Te land wardens just show you where you actually are and escort you back onto an actual byway...however if you are one of the many who purposely go off piste and are playing then they come down pretty hard on you.

Can remember one of the wardens showing me loads of pictures of vehicles stick in deep water where they shouldn't have been and he's laughing saying that they hydro locked the engine and then got charged for recovery and fined
