SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
Re: SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
My antenna is 1.5 metres. Can pick up some foreign lorry drivers, that's about it.
Will have to get someone to set it up for me.
Another good day on the lanes today. Starter motor keeps on packing up, don't think I will bother with another second hand one, don't know it's history. Will buy myself a nice new one, and then drop my broken one in for refurbing.
Tried the bomb hole again now the truck has a snorkel. Got stuck again. It seems at the bottom of the entry, there is a big ditch/trap, where people keep trying and getting stuck. I don't think anything smaller than 31/32" tyres will get through it. My 29's just don't have a big enough footprint to clear the ditch.
So yeah, truck filled up with water again, It's fecking discusting... Again. DOH!
My Neighbors must royally HATE me

Fitted a bigger alternator to the truck. Had to stretch the bottom rad hose a bit to reach around it. Now it's sprung a leak.
Removed bottom rad hose, it's not got any holes in it (Pressurized it up etc). But I have a feeling it's leaking from the solid tube which pushes into the block behind the water pump.
Any idea how I can stop this leaking? Is the O-ring replaceable?

Threaders with this bloody truck.
Fitted a new O-ring today. Even gave it a smear of RTV Silicone. Bolted it all back up, replaced pipe work etc.
It's now p*ssing out of the back of the water pump. Bloody thing!
And it's an utter arse to take the solid pipe off with the inlet maifold in place.
Will have another look the weekend, take all the inlet off etc. If I cant fix it, it's going. haha!
Will drive it straight over to the EMR weighbridge.

Couldn't find that exact size O-ring online, but got a load of 27mm x 3.5mm ones. And some 27mm x 3.1mm ones.
Hopefully one of the two sizes will seal the hole up. I'm thinking the original size O-ring may be too skinny now, as the pipes rusted over 30 years etc...

Fitted a new O-ring today. Seals up perfectly. Run the engine up for 10 mins, then discover a constant dripping from behind the crank pulley. F*CK MY LIFE! It's leaking from the water pump now I think.
I've got a felling I am just going to be chasing a leak around now, to find out it's another internally fecked engine.
Time to strip belt and covers off to inspect. Fed up of this sh*t. Haha All I want to do is take it out and play.

The more workshop time you rack up the more fun you have when you finally get back out playing!!

W/P is off. Whipped it off outside the flat rather than taking it over to the garage. Surprisingly easy to do with the engine in Situ. I've only worked on the SJ engine while it was out on a workbench. Stupidly didn't replace the W/P at the time of rebuild because the old one looked very good. Gasket had gone on it, but for the £22.50 I am getting the new pump for, I may as well change the whole lot while it is off.
Unit arrives tomorrow so will get it fitted up ready for the weekend.
Unfortunately I need the SJ to run, as my Transit (Daily) now looks like this, thanks to a Romanian articulate lorry decided to drive into the side of me at a junction.
