Possibly looking for some rims

Post by Ladaman » Mon Nov 03, 2014 10:48 pm

The tyres I'm running are 31"x10.5"xR15 according to the sticky I need rims:-

31x10.50R15 min rim 7 inch optimum rim 8.5 inch maximum rim width 9 inch

So does anyone have any comments or pointers as to what's best?

Even better some rims to suit?

Wide as you can go I'd say. 9" sounds nice. For the wheels that is...
If it ticks over...leave it

What width are you running now? Remember the beadlocks add width as the bead is on the outside of the outer wheel face, not inside. I don't agree that wider is better, tyres hold their bead better on the narrower of the recomended widths, 7-8" will be fine with 10.5s

I've just popped out to look and they seem to be 8" or 8.5", that's from the outer edge of the inner beadlock, to the back of the rim, if you know what I mean.

Rim widths are measured between the inner edges of the lips so for you that would be the inner edge of the beadlock ring to the inside of the rear lip.

I was running my 31s on 15x7 mangels, that's as supplied as a tyre package.

I've been told they will fit and run a little taller on 7J rims than 8J rims, so 7J is probably the way to go.

The height difference will be so minimal you probably won't notice.

I would just keep them on the rims that they are on.

The reason I'm "considering" changing the rims is the drive shaft failures. The rims are well smart.

My thought is when off road, mainly rocks, if a couple of wheels go airborn, as did the other weekend (accidentally) then there is a chance a shaft could break, again.

I'm thinking if a front and rear wheel are free spinning, a rear hits the floor then the inertia from the heavy spinning front wheel is able to snap my rear shaft.

Do any of you guys running 33's know a total wheel weight?

I know mine it 6 stones or 38Kg for you youngsters.
