Ignition Switch

Post by The Bird Man » Sun Nov 16, 2014 1:22 pm

Anyone that's done the 1.6 vitara 8 v conversion in a 410, can you please assist. I am trying to wire up the ignition barrel but I am unsure what wires go to it. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I am using the 1.3 Spanish Sammi wiring loom with a 410 barrel. Many thanks, Eddie :D

Thanks for that diagram Darrell ;) Looking at all the ones I have and that diagram, I have these wires: Black with a yellow tracer, yellow with a green tracer, a white with a yellow tracer and a brown with a blue tracer which is slightly thicker than the rest. All the ones in that diagram apart from the brown and blue wire :S

Looking at the full diagram for the spanish switch the index does not even list a BYG wire colour ,so who knows what that is.
Sounds like it should be the brown/blue as the others match :er:

Ace !! Thanks again Darrel !!! ;) :D On the actual barrel does it matter which of four contacts I solder the wires onto ? I'm not going to use the connector block, just solder the wires straight onto it :)

I'm a bit confused? Why have you swapped the wiring loom for a 1.3 loom?

I would also advise using the connector block, makes life a lot easier if the steering column or barrel ever need to come off in future.

I wanted the 413 dash, as I have plans for a new control panel and will look better on that than the 410 :) Will bare that in mind with the connector block. There's four points on the ignition barrel where the wires go does it matter which one goes where ?

Fair enough, tbh I prefer the 410 dash, you should have been able to keep the 410 loom easily enough though, the Spanish wiring loom and fuse box is horrible

Yes it does matter where the wires go, they have to be in the correct place.

Ha, I did too until I saw some pictures of others 413 dash. I'm going to swap all the original switches to toggles too  I may of been able to keep the 410 loom but that would of involved more re-wiring and I've got a head ache with just this ! Ha. How do I work out which ones go where ?

Have you already removed the original wires from the ignition switch?
