Have you got the overflow of the carb plumbed into the fuel return? I tried this and it gave the same symptoms as you are getting.

That will be the problem mate, just run a piece of pipe down into the lower engine bay and let it dangle, mine goes into the wing behind the head light.

cheers man i will give that a try, but im trying to work out how that can be an issue? Surely if there is fuel overflowing the carb whats the difference between it running back to the tank instead of all over the floor?

think its a pressure issue - but not 100%

ill take it off tonight and run it, might run the overflow into a bottle or something for now just in case it does leak at all (and im from yorkshire and the thought of just wasting something onto the ground doesnt sit well with me!)

I had a bottle on the end of mine for a while. After running it for about 6 months it had nothing in it so I just let the hose point at the floor open ended.

OK so i have taken the fuel over flow off and it runs fine, if I put my thumb over the su overflow it stalls, I'm happy that it's working but would like to know why the fuel overflow can't be blocked off?

It's all to do with pressure. I think if you block it the engine can't draw petrol in through the jet or something.
