Deffo, I did it with a friend who really know his stuff and he would of been sure to of put it in the right way. (unfortunately he's gone wandering and can't get hold of him :/)

Just had a phone call from a friend who I explained my problem to and he said about there should be two springs in with the gear lever, I haven't got these. Could this be the problem ? Even when the engine is turned off, I still can't put it into gear. You should be able to do that shouldn't you, even with a dodgy clutch ?

Not sure which springs they are.
But yes, when stationary engine off, even without using the clutch you should be able to go through the gears.
Is there much slop in the gear lever?

Also the prop the connects the transfer and the transmission together spins round until I put the clutch in so that indicates the clutch is set up right ? Nah changed nothing pal, All I've done it pretty much took everything apart, did the necessary work on the body and, painting axles ect... Then put her back together
I had a look underneath afterward it shot forward and notice a drop of oil on the bottom of the transmission housing, can't see where it came from though.
This sounds to me like the gearbox is in gear but the gearstick is in the wrong position?
However I'm a bit confused by the fact you say that it only shoots forwards only with the transferbox in 4 low?? Really the only position it won't try and drive in is neutral..between 4hi and 4low?
Pop the gearstick out and make sure that the notches in the selector forks are all lined up.

I'm confused all together pal, haha. I took the gear lever off and had a look at the selector rods and they seem to be all alined. Regarding how much play I've got, I can sway it to the right and then is springs back but that's as much as I can do with it. Anything else is a no go, solid as rock !! With is springing back into position, that would indicate it being in neutral wouldn't it ? I tried moving the selector rods while the gear lever was off just to see if I can get any movement from them but they seem to be seized, not shifting one bit. I checked the tranny oil from the inspection plug, put my little finger in and only got a slight bit of oil on the tip of my finger so undid the drain plug and well, lets just say there was some in there after all, haha !

I would undo the prop from the t-case and turn it to make 100% sure its in neutral...
it sounds like me and scottie are right and the stick is in the wrong place.
you wont be able to move the linkages by hand as they take quite a lot of force to move, you have to prize them up/across with a screwdriver or some other levering device
i've done it a couple of time by accident and its a pain in the arse haha
admittedly not as bad as clutch in wrong way, 4 bolts for gearstick is much easier than take the whole box off again

All sorted !!!
It was in gear, selector rods were still stiff to move, so I rocked it backwards and forth while jiggiling the gear lever and hey presto ! We have gear shifting
So pleased it wasn't anything major. Can't take all the credit though, a friend did help me.
