I just spun the fan quite easily since getting out 5 hours ago.
Tomorrow I will get it warm and try again.

But the air con was off ?
When I switch it on a light then glows.
No light was showing and fan speed control was also off like photo supplied.
Is there a switch that controls the air con fan that may need looking at etc.
from memory as I looked over the grille there was a connection to a silver junction box which is part of the air con to the left hand side ?
Or am I now getting paranoid.

Hope this helps.
Update.
This morning after leaving the GV since last night, the water level in the bottle was on the max fill line, like it always is when cold.
I spun the fan whilst cold no problem.
Around midday i drove about 15 miles to the beach & whilst watching the gauge all the way the needle went to the 3 o clock position like always and stayed there.
Once at the beach i opened the bonnet and i would say that i was able to spin the fan just like i did as when it was cold earlier with maybe the slightest of resistance if any.
Top/bottom hose both nice and warm etc & Both heater pipes in/out also nice and warm etc.

When i purchased this GV one month ago i did notice that the 4 poppers that hold the top of the grille in place were missing.
I have also now noticed the the top hose is connected to what looks like a nice shiney black plastic thermostat cover.
I believe the last owner possibly has had the same situation as me ?
I did phone them and ask a few questions of which were all positive, you can tell when somebody is truthfull or trying to cover something up,they seemed 100% genuine and reported no problems.
Not sure if i mentioned before "yesterday" but i dont recall seeing the needle gently rise from the 3 o clock position to the white/red section of the gauge before i could hear the fan like you would expect but more like there one minute then there the next ?

Anyway what do you think about this today.

I would consider replacing the viscous fan coupling. It should be quite stiff to turn when warm. A quick note if you plan to do it yourself, the thread for the nut maybe left hand thread. i.e lefty righty, righty losey.

Ok
Couple of questions.

Are all petrol the same ?
The left hand thread you mention would be the large faced item between the Coupling and the pulley with the 13mm nuts on ?

Do you have one to sell or should I asked in the wanted section ?

Once fitted I might then see a different needle position on the gauge ?

Thanks for the advice.

The left hand thread is on the big nut that holds the fan unit to the pulley (the rusty one at the back of your fan in the picture). Not sure if it is left hand thread it will depend on which direction your engine spins. I'm not clued up on grand vitaras just going with previous experience on bland rovers.

place an add in the wanted section, but i would advise getting a new one from your local motor factors. You don't know how long a second hand one will last.

I have picked up a Vicous coupling from low mileage vehicle.
Looking at the posts above they mention, left hand thread on the big rusty nut.
I dont think this is the same set up for mine.
On the back of the coupling is the rusty nut but its attached to a flange.
Looking at my existing setup it looks as if i just undo the 4 x 12mm nuts, where the coupling flange then meets the flange/jockey wheel.Tensioner for the fan belt etc.
These are so tight ive not managed to move them yet.

Would this be correct, only other option that i can see is to remove this tensioner bracket and remove the fan, coupling & tensioner and hold it in the vice.

Any advice,cheers.

The workshop manual does not mention any tool to stop it rotating whilst undoing the nuts.
These holes my take a piece of rod or screw driver to hold it.
I can't really tell in the photo if it will go right through though.

The holes do go right through.
Even so the nuts are super tight.
I was thinking of taking the part off in one go like your second photo.
I might then be able to get a better leverage on the nuts.
