My mate "mad lada tony" bought a trailer tent that was basically ruined in every possible way, but had a detachable camping kitchen with hob, sink, running water, cupboards etc - just for the kitchen.

So whenever we go camping with the hilux boys (it's been a few years for me now) he just pops the whole thing on the back of his Rav 4 and off he goes. When he gets to the campsite, he pulls the kitchen out and sleeps in the Rav 4. Works really well, I can't see why it wouldn't work for you too!

Anton, thats exactly what i am doing, dont have those big gas bottles as i just use one of those stoves that use the butane tins but it does work well,it basically all fits in the back loading bay of the Vitara and i have the front seat laying flat and one side of the split rear seat folded down as well so one can lay down full length in a sleeping bag. With a small water carrier so that i can make a brew up,a cool bag and box keep all my food cool for the whole weekend. Also had a few sheets of new mdf type of sheets with wood grain pattern on it that i will cut into a small cupboard similar to your mates camping setup.

Its not a 5 star hotel but it keeps me warm and dry off the ground and i hate putting tents up anyway,so with some thought and basic equipment that can be bought at the end of each summer when you can pick up some real quality bargain, the idea of the temporary blinds was so that i can arrive at say a Rally on a friday night and leave the blinds in place till i leave on the sunday.

Its not everyones cup of tea but i can rough it for a few days over bank holidays, with the price of camper vans and caravans and the amount of time that folks use them my option costs peanuts and i possibly enjoy it more as well.

When the black out blinds arrive i will then cut them to the shape of each window and then carefully store them again after using them each time, that way they should last a few years.

Why not get an air bed, far more comfortable?

Never thought about them, just checked online and they do a massive selection and one specific one that has 891 votes of average 4.5 for a tenner, that is a real bargain it has and i quote 'Soft velvety feel for added comfort' especially when you compare it with say 'Lucious Lucy' from the sexshop for hundreds :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha:

I don't know about Lucy, but I've shoved my ample frame on a tesco airbed and, whilst it wasn't as nice as my orthopaedic mattress at home, it kicked the living **** out of anything Travel Bodge or Premier Bin has ever offered me.

What do you use heat the inside up? I'm looking to get a little gas heater for my tent.

As yet i dont have a heater but the one i will get will be the one that runs on the small gas canisters, they have a spark ignition and provide more than enough heat for say a tent or van, only thing i am not sure about is how one copes with possible fumes in a confined space.

These are the type of gas canisters they use.
