My samurai has the plugs as well but ive never had any issues getting them undone with the square end of a socket wrench.
If they give you some trouble show them a bit of blowtorch

Yeah the transfer box undone easy, but the gearbox fill plug rounded off, had to get a mate to weld a nut on there!
Trying to get the diffs undone is proving somewhat a pain, so I'm going to have to buy some proper tools!

So I took out the fill plug for the transfer box on the weekend, there was plenty of oil in there but it was yellow?
Are some oils yellow? Or do you get additives or anything?
Thanks.

I would say more like bright yellow! But my memory could be playing games, I was doing a lot that day, I might take another look tonight.
Think I might just do an oil change anyway. Its the same, 75w90 right?

Full of water. I had the rubber gaiter go on a t/box and when I went wading it would fill up and go yellow as it got churned. Post up a pic of it

Yes! That is exactly how it looked !!!
I will be changing the oil today straight after work!
Does this mean there's a water leak somewhere in the transfer box?
Thanks for your help in identifying this (y)

Driving through deep water In it's past life, your SJ may have had water sucked in by vacuum into the hot case, via the breather tube.
So hopefully not necessarily a leak
