Right this might sound a bit blunt but this really BUGS me, I know so many people who just ignore that light and carry on driving until the engine is wrecked.

If the oil pressure warning light comes on STOP turn the engine off and get towed home! try a brand new switch and if it's still on then try a new oil filter, if it's still on again then it's time to start looking for the cause and do not run the engine unless you really have to, those pressure switches come on when the pressure is so low that it's more than likely already started doing some damage!

Shame upon me!!!
My light was on on my 8v engine, only at idle... so I turned the idle up til the light went off ;)

To be fair though it was because of my leaky sump gasket... and I did top it up with oil every day
(Sometimes multiple times every day ;) )

Scott's right though, it's best to fix it before it breaks more/something else

The oil pump itself does not create pressure. It produces flow and the resistance to that flow produces pressure.

so if pump isnt working will pressure drop??

Yes! If there is no flow no pressure will build up

Right long time nothing done. Got a replacement sender, took the old one out was only finger tight and had oil coming out of the top of it :er: so new one in out for a test and sorted :doublethumbs: cheers for the help

so would the fact that it was that loose been your loss of oil pressure? glad it was a simple fix though matey :thumbup:
