Hmmm it seems to be the weber that changes the engines characteristics when I fiddle with it or clean it out.
I could always get an su and sell the weber on to someone who'll use it on a road car!
What's the going rate on properly converting the inlet? Is it an easy job for someone who can weld?

Webbers are generally used for fast road engines. Personally, I'd go for an SU over a Webber.
Having said that, you've already got the Webber and carbs are bloody expensive.
I paid £25 inc p+p for an su and £15 for an adaptor. Got the carb from a company like this

Just another note that I checked the cam timing and its bang on so no issues with that.
I think Im gonna go with an SU even if it only stops it flooding when climbing hills, it bugs me!!
Emailed rockwatt earlier about a manifold and its most likely the route I'll go down, and sell the weber on to pay for some of it
Its currently sitting in a bucket of (what was clean, petrol) with all the jets and screws etc out then will take it to work and blast it all through with an airline.
Dont worry Ive drawn a pic of where all the correct jets etc go
