Flap discs will eat metal..Lots of sparks(tiny pieces of metal/very hot).. clean/strip discs if used properly don't damage metal.. No sparks..
Their not cheap, I bought ten for £64
but I could strip the paint off a range rover with a disc or two to spare.

Had a day off today so went down the workshop to play with my joggler..
Started like this.
Had a joggle.
Cut and shaped the roof cut to fit.
Ignore the paint..It's all coming off.
From inside.
Just need to hole punch and weld from inside.. Then lead load from the outside.
I'm pleased with the new tool (joggler/edge setter) the two pieces of steel overlap by about 12mm making a stronger join than butt welding and also sit flush/flat on each other.. I'm hoping the join won't be visible from to outside when completed... The inside will be covered by the roof lining.

I used HPOC Scottie's new auto-darkening mask the other day - it was a damn fine piece of kit. I think he paid £25 for his, with 5 spare outer screens and one spare inner screen. No batts, it's powered by a solar panel.
Worthwhile investment, I rekon. I have poor eyesight (need glasses) but very sensitive to light and therefore I like my masks *
dark*, so starting a weld is *SO* much easier/more accurate with his mask. The time they save is probably worth the money they cost on a daily basis to a pro welder, but they still pay for themselves for the rest of us, I'd say. Plus his has flames on it, which is kooool.
Then again, I don't actually own one!

That's a nice fit with the repair panel! I've got one of those little jogglers, they are damn useful!
I've used one of those cleaning discs before Dan2k had one when we were doing his virtual lift, they work really well, might have to buy a few for the LJ resto, I completely forgot about them

I forgot about them too. The ones I had were given as testers and quite coarse. Would imagine the finer ones being better for prep but the coarser ones ate surface rust and thick paint for breakfast!

For those like me and thought "load lead" ???
http://freespace.virgin.net/tommy.sandham/leading.htm
I didn't think you could solder steel
I can just see what mine would look like, welded all the way around (Too fast at that)

And that would be the smooth bit

All this talk of masks makes me wanna boast.
I got given a £680 speed glas one. Its the tits but I would never get past the £25 ebay jobs if I was buying one myself!
