CB aerials work best as high as possible with least obstacles in any direction.

For the purpose of off roading or laning pretty much any where you think looks good is fine. Whilst off roading most groups are usually within several humdred yards of each other. A CB and aerial fitted by a blind chimp could achieve this.

The only time you need to consider how and where to mount an aerial is if you are trying to "get out" for several miles. A 4' whip is ample length and if you swapped to a 6' you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

If you want to be really fussy and get maximum performance everything is pointless unless you SWR it all.
